Cambodian dragon fruit being exported to China

Summarized by Ms. Natacia Ann Esguerra

Vietnamese conglomerate Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) is on its second export of 100 tons of dragon fruit to China from its Ratanakkiri plantation in Cambodia.
HAGL also exports bananas to China. It invested in planting 14 types of fruits for export to diversify its Cambodian operations.

The company’s exports to China were questioned by the Kampong Speu Mangoes Association as to why HAGL fruits pass the sanitary and phytosanitary regulations (SPS) of China while their mangoes cannot. But the Ratanakkiri Provincial Agriculture Department assured that HAGL already obtained its SPS certification from the Ministry of Agriculture when it started shipping fruits to China.
