GOAT FARMING IN THE PHILIPPINES is predominantly a backyard activity. Given the prevailing challenges faced by the other livestock industries, such as swine, combined with the increasing interest in goat products, the sector offers a promising opportunity to both small and commercial farmers, or anyone looking to enter the industry. Food derived from goats, such as meat and milk, is considered healthier compared to other sources of protein.

The raising of small ruminants is most common in regions like Central Visayas, Western Visayas, and Ilocos, where the inventory of goats is highest. The status of the Philippines as being free from critical goat diseases like Peste des Petits Ruminants and Foot-and-Mouth Disease contributes to the viability of goat farming across the country. Currently, the supply of goat meat and milk is lower than the demand, according to the Small-Ruminant Industry Roadmap for 2022-2040 of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
