AGRICULTURE HAS LONG BEEN A CORNERSTONE OF THE PHILIPPINE ECONOMY, shaping the lives of millions and supporting communities across the country. Its impact stretches beyond food production, influencing employment, trade and rural development.

This article will discuss Philippine agriculture scenarios, highlighting agricultural performance in 2025, the growth drivers and dampeners, and forecasts for 2026.

COMPOSITION AND CONTRIBUTION

The agriculture sector is composed of several major subsectors: crops, livestock, poultry, and fisheries and aquaculture.

Crops account for over half of agricultural output. Major crops include palay, banana, corn, and coconut.  Livestock, which contributes 11 percent, poultry and eggs as well as fisheries and aquaculture corner 12 percent each. Others, like forestry and support services, make up the rest.
